It’s human nature to want to control things. We spend a lot of time trying to oversee every aspect of our lives: our environment, our relationships, our careers, and even what people think of us. The truth is that we can’t control everything, and the more we try, the more it creates anxiety and stress. The great paradox in this is that the more we surrender control, the easier things can become, and the more we open ourselves up to a fulfilling future.
Here are 3 tips to let go of control:
1. Focus less on the outcome and more on the journey.
Life unfolds in unexpected ways. Logically, we know that we can’t control everything all the time, but it doesn’t stop us from trying. Surrendering control doesn’t mean giving up your autonomy but rather letting go of attachment to a particular outcome. It means adjusting positively to unexpected events, being flexible, maintaining a sense of humor, and retaining our certainty that life is happening for us, not to us.
Our attachments to how things “should” be limit us from living the life we are actually meant to live. The only way we learn new things and grow is by surrendering those attachments. Put your energy and effort into the things that matter to you but understand that everything is about what you learn in the journey along the way. Focus on giving your energy to what is within your control and reacting in ways that support your growth when things don’t go according to plan. The outcome and how things will be received are irrelevant if you are placing your energy in the right place.
2. View your life as a partnership with the Creator.
We tend to think that it’s solely on our shoulders to make things happen in life. We fear that unless we are controlling every aspect of our lives, nothing will move forward. In reality, the Light of the Creator is flowing all the time, and we just need to tap into it. Our purpose is not to force things to happen but rather to ride the wave of energy.
Work on making this a way of life. Every time you are about to do something important, say, “I don’t want to be the only force creating this. I want to connect to the Light of the Creator. What does the Creator want me to share?” Know that this energy exists to support you in your journey and that you have the power to access it.
3. Open yourself up to the possibility that there are limitless blessings waiting for you.
So many people believe that great things are not available for them in this lifetime or that things are as good as they will ever get. This is one of the biggest ways we get stuck in life. In truth, there are limitless blessings waiting right outside your doorstep. Tomorrow can be so much better on so many levels.
If you don’t believe blessings are available for you, that’s the first place to start. Nothing will change until your thoughts do. Begin to open yourself up to the possibility that there are limitless joy and goodness waiting for you. Only with that consciousness will you be able to discover that great future you are meant to have.
Surrender sounds like a scary word, but it doesn’t mean that we give up on the things we care about. It means embracing life’s process and letting go of the attachments that hold us back. It’s about understanding the future is uncertain and putting ourselves in the hands of the Creator. When you experience surrender, you find peace you’ve never known before, and that makes you unstoppable in the pursuit of your desires.
