We begin the week with six planets in earth: Mercury, Mars, and Venus in Capricorn; Jupiter and Uranus in Taurus; and the moon in Virgo. This element has a heavy energetic weight for both the good and the challenging. The earth element is associated with stability, practicality, determination and a focus on physical reality. On the positive side, in this period we can achieve practical goals and be more objective, rational, and logical. We have the patience to confront obstacles with perseverance. We can be very pragmatic with a focus on success and safety. Overall, there is a strong energy of faithfulness and loyalty, which brings forth commitment in our personal and professional relationships. In general, it is a good time to commit and take responsibility.

“It is a good time to commit and take responsibility.”

On the more challenging side, all of this earthly energy can make us overly materialistic. Our connection with physicality can cause us to focus excessively on wealth and status. We can also be resistant to change and exceedingly stubborn. The fear of danger can limit our growth opportunities. Finally, a lack of emotional expression overcomes us, and it’s quite apparent.

Now, let’s look at the planets in Capricorn. On the one hand, Mars and Mercury are very close, and this can cause really aggressive, direct communication that’s authoritarian and stern. We must be careful of this aspect, which shows no flexibility in the area of confrontation and communication. This energy can feel heavy and also lacks compassion or tolerance. We must think of others and be more sensitive while, at the same time, not take things personally.

We cannot overlook the fact that the sun in Aquarius breaks up this limiting, heavy earth energy, bringing out an innovative approach. Earth bears logic and reason, but Aquarius bears intelligence and the ability to see things from a broader, freer place. Aquarius pushes us to go beyond our limits and look after others. In fact, it is the sign of utopia, a better world where we fight for freedom, equality, and solidarity. As is evident, the planets in earth clash strongly with all this Aquarian energy.

“If we bring these energies into harmony, we can build something unique…”

If we bring these energies into harmony, we can build something unique where the old is recycled—retaining some structures and values—with a fresh, futuristic, revolutionary bend. This is one of the great gifts of this period. Another is the ability to manifest and carry out Aquarius’s crazy, brilliant ideas, which are often great but really “out there.” All this earth energy can finally sort them out and give them the most practical way to come to fruition.

The sun here isn’t alone, but sharing a sign with the great Pluto, the master of destroying and rebuilding. This makes both of their energies most potent. As we’ve been saying the last few weeks, we’re on the threshold of a huge, unprecedented social shift that will affect all of us. We are coming upon what Rav Berg called the “War of Gog Umagog,” the war of thoughts and belief systems for the sake of a better world. More than ever, this is the time to work on our spirituality, to connect with the Creator so we can be in the right place with the right mindset.

Part of the challenge of these energies will definitely be a lack of sensitivity. We know the earth element doesn’t have much sensitivity, nor does Aquarius. This can usher us into a cold period of great indifference. Despite Aquarius’s concern for the social good, it also has a glaring inability to distinguish between the individual and the collective.

“More than ever, this is the time to work on our spirituality…”

This week, we continue to bask in the lunar phase called the Full Moon, which lasts from January 25th until February 2nd. It is a time of balance, harmony, and stability, bringing us splendor and success. The energy around now can get more intense—which is very normal for a Full Moon—affecting our mood and emotions. The Full Moon came right on time in Leo, opposite the sun in Aquarius. This means we can achieve creative expression, generosity, and an open heart. This lunar cycle brings us a little bit of the fire so lacking in the sky.

Remember, the planets influence us with their energy, but ultimately, we are the ones who must choose how to use it. Use it wisely.
