Lesson Highlights

  • Jacob trading a bowl of lentil soup for Esau's birthright
  • Birthright: a code for blessings
  • The Creator is stricter with the righteous than the wicked
  • Consciousness of righteous and wicked exist within us
  • Every action is important; it is the consciousness of wickedness that makes us believe our actions are not important
  • Nisah (test) contains the letters that form the word Nes (miracles and elevate)
  • The Light will be revealed even when we face challenges
  • Settling for lentil soup: our specific expectations
  • The Light provides exactly what we need
  • Feelings and emotions present us with illusions, not what is good for us
  • Rejection and changing perspective about our tests
  • Desire to Receive for the Self Alone causes us to feel bitterness about things that are good for us
  • Heaven and Hell exist in the same reality
  • Shifting and opening our consciousness through kabbalistic prayers
  • Isaac praying for Rivka to give birth: praying for others with a pure and constant desire
  • Prayer starts with desire (Keter), thought (Chochmah), intention (Binah), words (Zeir Anpin) and actions (Malchut)
  • Where there is desire there is joy
  • Maintaining constant desire
  • How often do we focus on our desire? What do we desire? Who do we desire it from?
  • When we focus on ourselves alone we do not have affinity with the Light and cannot recieve answers to our prayers
  • Praying for our children
  • Certainty and selfless prayer: trusting that the Light will provide for us and praying for others
  • Where are our desires for others' well being? How is our agenda connected to it?
  • Depression is a lack of desire for the Light

Lesson Description

There are many understandings of how prayer helps us connect to the Light, but the portion of Toldolt contains a particularly powerful lesson in the story of Isaac and Rivkah. Join Eitan as he explores how we can make a stronger connection to the Light through the consciousness revealed by Isaac praying for Rivka to bear a child even though she was physically unable to become pregnant.
