So often, when studying spirituality, we hear about the power of positive thinking – so much so that it can sometimes sound trite or cliché. But there is a logic to the way our thoughts create the energy that influences our surroundings, our experiences, and ultimately the fulfillment we find.

Here are 3 ways positivity can change your life for the better:

1. Positive thoughts, words, and actions create a positive environment. Have you ever walked into a room and immediately gotten a bad vibe? It’s an inexplicable but very real, visceral feeling. Conversely, have you ever been somewhere that immediately put you at ease with its warm, inviting atmosphere?

The wisdom of Kabbalah explains that there’s a very good reason for this. Everything around us is energy – the air, the walls, and even inanimate objects. We influence the energy around us through our thoughts and behavior, for better or for worse. It’s no surprise that people spend a considerable about of money and effort to ensure that their house has proper feng shui or that a house where a violent crime was committed often loses market value.

We have a responsibility in the spaces we inhabit. The energy we create in our home is the energy every person walking in will feel. Once energy is revealed in a place, it remains forever. The negative energy created in a house with a lot of arguing, yelling, and negative actions does not simply go away when you make up.

Although this may sound like a huge responsibility, it can actually be inspiring! If you dedicate your thoughts, words, and actions to positivity, you can create a positive energy that fills the spaces you inhabit. We influence what type of energy exists around us, and that extends to every person that lives in or enters the space.

2. The more positive energy you create, the more positive occurrences in your life. It’s easy to believe that the things we have done stay in the past. But in truth, the energy we create stays with us forever and eventually manifests in ways we don’t even realize.

We sometimes don’t understand why bad things happen to us. It’s easy to think someone else is just luckier or had a leg up or has a better disposition. If you spend a whole day with only negative thoughts, words, and actions, you will create a cloud of negative energy that will manifest in your life at some point. It isn’t a punishment, just the result of the energy you have created. The opposite of this is also true. If you dedicate your life to creating positive energy through thoughts and acts of sharing, kindness, and selflessness, positive things will manifest in your life.

Don’t underestimate the power of even one positive thought. Whether you had a painful childhood or a slew of experiences you are not proud of, you can absolutely redirect your life. One powerful, positive thought can completely change your life. Every moment, you choose what energy you create and what kind of life you are going to have.

3. Through positivity, you gain the support of a higher force. If we accept that the positive and negative energies we create do not dissipate, then it stands to reason that humanity has created massive, collective forces of both positive and negative throughout history that are still with us today. There is a powerful, negative force that tries to get you to do negative things. That force is both an effect of the negativity you have created and the global negativity that humanity has been creating since the dawn of time.

There is, of course, also a powerful, positive force you can connect to. How do you determine which energy you plug into? Through your thoughts, words, and actions! If you judge another person or speak ill of them, you are choosing to connect with your own negativity, as well as the collective, negative force. When you need to then make positive decisions, it becomes more difficult. On the other hand, when you connect to the positive, you call on that powerful force to support you. If you fight your inclination to judge, speak badly, or to do something negative, you actively plug into the collective goodness and are more able to do positive things and have things go right for you.

Know that there is energy far beyond your own that is available to you. Even if you’ve been in a rut, know that there is a huge wave of positivity waiting for you to grab and ride to fulfillment.

Every day is a choice and a possibility. We make important decisions about how we think, speak, and behave every moment without even realizing it! Become aware of the power of your thoughts and actions. You can both create and connect to powerful positive energy that shapes the world around you and your experience of it. By choosing positivity, you choose to change yourself and the world for the better.
