Lesson Highlights

  • It is better not to say anything at all than saying something that is empty
  • We invest 1 point per word and 2 points per silence
  • The opponent is waiting at the doorway of our mouth
  • Being Silent during prayers, and during the reading of the Torah
  • If something inspires you spiritually, take action!
  • Use less words than too many if needed
  • Inject the force of silence, then reflect on how to say what’s required (do not excess in speech)
  • Wisdom on its own doesn’t help or do anything at all without sharing it
  • Learning and taking action
  • Kabbalists usually do a fast of silence

Call of ation:

  1. This week, notice when you want to speak when you get reactive.
  2. Instead of talking (even if you are justified!), be silent.
  3. Take it in. Write down how it felt, and what you wanted to say but didn’t.
  4. Fast of Silence Holding back instead of reactively answering or replying, even if we feel that we are right or correct.
  5. Plant seeds of silence.

Lesson Description

Kabbalists have shared the most powerful ways to elevate our soul from the power of our mouth, and emphasize that our souls' sparks are taken away everytime we say something negative. In this lesson, Yehuda teaches the importance of being silent, and the ways to avoid negative speech.
