The first chapter of the Torah (the Hebrew Bible) is Beresheet. We always read this portion following the connections of Sukkot and before the New Month of Scorpio. In Beresheet, we learn how the world came about and how the Creator formed the world. The portion also explains some of the events that took place following the creation of the world.

This is mainly the creation of Adam and Eve and the subsequent sin of Adam and Eve by eating the apple from the tree of knowledge.

Some say Beresheet is the most important portion of the entire bible, as it is the seed level of every portion to follow for the whole year. Here, we have the opportunity to plant the seed of connection to a reality free from all forms of chaos. That’s what the Torah is about—to elevate our consciousness beyond time, space, and motion; that is, to understand that physical reality suppresses the truth and opens us up to illusions of space and motion.

This is similar to the way Aries promotes new beginnings and self-affirmation as the first sign in the zodiac. Currently, Jupiter is in Aries in the chart—a sign where Jupiter is naturally at home. As a cardinal fire sign, Aries is focused on action, inspiration, and will, which is necessary for taking life by the horns. Jupiter seeks to expand into broader horizons, see the bigger picture, and create meaning. Whereas Aries desires to harness positive, fresh, daring, and optimistic energy in order to seek new experiences and chart a unique course through the unknowns of life.

Those unseen forces compel us to do things in positive or negative ways. But when we learn the underlying meaning, we can know how to make use of these energies. It can be a roller coaster! Understand that this is not attributed to reason. Chaos lacks understanding. Beresheet is the seed level of understanding what we want to achieve beyond the physical world.
