Tisha B’Av
The peak of our Opponent’s strength happens on Tisha B’Av (the 9th of Av), which the kabbalists describe as the most “negative” day of the year. This day was established at the time of Creation for the sake of empowering us to destroy the source and seed of all chaos by our own means. This special opportunity comes only once a year because on this day alone exists the total presence of all aspects of Opponent consciousness. All of its energy is concentrated into one place, so that we may completely destroy it in one fell swoop.
However, though many tragedies have happened on this day throughout history, it has the most potential to reveal Light. In fact, as Michael Berg often teaches us, the greatest light is concealed in the greatest darkness.
What this means for us practically is, though it’s easy to be spiritual when things are going well, it’s not so easy when things are difficult. That’s why it’s called ‘restriction’; we must resist our natural inclination to react to our surroundings, and instead proact toward our surroundings.
When we go to battle against our negative thoughts and impulses on this day, we make huge strides toward defeating them once and for all.
Tu B’Av
Av is a contradiction. Whereas Tisha B’Av is considered a tough, challenging day, the energy flips on Tu B’Av, considered a day of soulmates and love.
Tu B’Av is the one day a year that all masculine and feminine forces in the universe, from the celestial bodies to the tiniest of insects, unite in harmony. It takes place during the month of Leo, which is controlled by the sun. It happens on the 15th day of the month, when the moon is full. On this one day of the year, the sun and moon give off equal amounts of energy. Every creation in the world experiences total completeness. The earth and the cosmos are in perfect balance. Soulmates have the opportunity to meet, unite and reinforce their relationships. And for this reason, love is in the air.
The Sages equated Tu B’Av with Yom Kippur as the most positive days of the year. Why? Because the balance, the reciprocity, the harmony between the forces that control this universe allow the circuits of energy between our world and the Upper World to flow abundantly. This connectivity allows us to reach unimaginable spiritual heights, so much so that on this day, soulmates can be reunited.
We can download this energy of love, balance and harmony during the 24 hours of Tu B’Av. We can use it as a resource during those tough times in our relationships. We can also use that energy to get closer to finding our soulmate, and becoming truly complete. We can use this energy to make our existing relationships complete, and to build our vessel for balanced relationships to come. Moreover, we can use this day to balance the Light and Vessel relationship within each of us, so that our desire can be that of sharing instead of to receive.
