When I turned my computer on this morning a message came up on the screen: The network path was not found. This path has not been restored.
Technically, I'm not sure what this meant. But spiritually, it spoke volumes.
I've been at this ‘spirituality' game a long time. Suffice it to say, I get it. I get what life is about and what my mission here is. I get that though life can be complicated, messy and unclear at times, deep down I know this world is a corridor to a higher world. I know the work I came here to do.
The nature of this work is sharing, going against my nature, putting others first, sacrificing my ego, and…well, that about sums it up. Yet, I find there are days I get disconnected from my soul's mission, caught up in the thrills of this physical world, be it food, fun, or fantasy.
The illusion takes over.
I know from my experience teaching and working with students this is common to all of us. Whether we have been learning spirituality for a day or for a decade, we all have moments when we forget to share, we don't care about others' feelings, and we fall into the trap of, "it's all about me."
We all have moments when we ask ourselves,
"Where did my spirituality go?"
The Zohar tells us that this week, if we want it, if we REALLY want it, we can reconnect with the Light in our souls and the reason for our being alive. We can restore the urgency and vitality to our path.
A great way to do this, as my mother and teacher Karen Berg puts it, is as follows:
"Think, what if today was the last day of your life? What would you do with it? How would you treat those you love, and those around you? Suddenly the things around you that have so much meaning will seem so unimportant, and the purpose and meaning of your life will emerge from the shadows."This week, I ask all who are reading this, whether you are long-time students of Kabbalah or a friend passed you this email, to contemplate what is lasting and important in your life. Focus on who you are, where you want to be, and the difference you want to make in people's lives. Put your attention on your spiritual, eternal goals, and not on the obstacles that get in your way.
If you open yourself up to it, then you will find that situations, people and even your own thoughts will be there to help you to reconnect.
We all have moments when we forget. Now is your chance to remember.
