We are now in the beginning of the month of Elul, better known as the month of repentance.

On a simple level, it can be understood that in the upcoming month of Tishrei (sign of Libra), we will all be judged. Therefore, we should cleanse ourselves beforehand. But there is a deeper secret to this month.

Kabbalists throughout the ages have sought to awaken within their students the ability to be free from approval-seeking. They often pushed them to great lengths to release their addiction.

One of the gifts of Cancer is the ability to be sensitive towards the pain of others. Usually, when we see somebody else in pain, we try to help a little bit and then we stop. We say to ourselves, “There’s not much more I can do.” However, when a person takes on the responsibility of saying, “There is something that I can do to alleviate the pain and suffering in the world,’ and he goes out and confronts the suffering, then there’s no limit to what he will do or how much he will push himself.

According to the Kabbalists, the New Moon is considered to be the seed level for the rest of the month. It is on this day that we gather to learn about the influence of the month and specific energy of the coming month
