Initiating Blessings in Our Lives: The Week of Vayera

This week, we read about Abraham, who, according to the kabbalists, is the channel for unconditional love and sharing in this world. The Bible tells us how, when anyone came to visit him, he’d sit them under the tree outside his home; if the tree fanned its leaves out, Abraham knew the person was good and could be trusted. If the leaves did not move, then he knew the person might have had a problem or two. And so we read: “Come, please. Sit, join me. Shade yourself under my tree.” Interestingly, the particular tree that the Bible talks about was a date palm.

Finding Joy in Growth: The Week of Lech Lecha

In the first couple of lines of this week’s Bible reading, there is a message, and if we all followed it, perhaps we would be different people. It says: “Know from where you came, know to where you will go, and know to whom you must report.”

Meditation for Scorpio

Each Zodiac sign contains both positive and negative influences. Karen's meditation is a tool to use specifically during the New Moon, and throughout the month, to give us the ability to tap into the positive influences of the month of Scorpio.

In the month of Scorpio, it is good to have determination, but we also need to use the power of restriction. Even if we believe we are right, we must be willing to bend and give up the need to be in control. Compromise and collaboration can make all the difference during this time.

A Chance For a New Beginning

We’ve all said it before: Thank God for new beginnings, right? Truly it’s most likely that in the 20, 30, or 50 plus years we’ve been here, we’ve probably had hundreds of fresh starts. The ability to forget, begin anew, and turn the page to see things in a different light, is quite the luxury of being human! This week, the cosmos actually presents us with this gift as we connect to the first portion of the Bible, Beresheet, or Genesis.

True Fulfillment Through Simplicity

Kabbalah teaches us that every section of the Bible is full of secrets and that not one letter is without a purpose. For instance, one of the points that is mentioned is that if you put milk in a vessel of silver or gold, it will spoil, but it you put it in an earthen vessel, it remains fresh. What is the meaning of this seemingly small detail? How does this apply to our practical spiritual transformation?
