Reincarnation: Who Cares?
Recently, I have traveled to different Kabbalah Centres around the world and spoken on the topic of Reincarnation.
And the question I asked of those who attended was…Who cares? What difference does it make if I know about, or even believe in, reincarnation, for that matter.
I’ll tell you what difference it makes. The difference is that if I can understand what I came back for, I can fix it. And by fixing it, I can heal the chaos in my life and eventually do my part in healing the chaos in the world.

The first part of anything is acknowledgment. If I want to heal anything, I first need to acknowledge that it exists. The reason that people cannot cure addiction is because they don’t have one. The reason that many people have certain problems is they simply choose to deny that they exist. So too it is with Reincarnation.
Once upon a time, there was a student of the famous Kabbalist, the Baal Shem Tov, who came to his master and said to him, “Is there righteousness in this world? Is there retribution? How can I see in daily life what truly happens?” And he said to him, “You know what? Tomorrow afternoon, I want you to go to the park and just take a seat and observe the people around you and see what you figure out.”
And sure enough, he goes to the park that afternoon, and a man comes by and he seems so happy, and he’s carrying a huge valise. He sits down on a park bench to rest for a minute and bask in the sun when suddenly he realizes he forgot something. So he runs off to get whatever it was, forgetting to take the valise with him. A second man comes by, sees the valise, opens it up, and finds a huge amount of money inside. He looks here and there, and scoots off with the valise.
A third man comes. Now this is all taking place in a matter of seconds, and he sits down by the tree; he’s enjoying the afternoon. The first man comes back, and he says to the man sitting at the tree, “Give me my money.” And the third man says, “What money? I never saw any money.” The first man says, “You took my valise, it was next to this bench, you took it from me, I want it back.” Now this fight ensues between these two individuals, until finally, out of exhaustion, the first man takes the guy and he flings him up against the tree and he walks away.
Night falls, and the student comes back to his teacher, and he says, “You know what? I understand that we have to wait for the World to Come.” He says, “What do you mean?” He says, “Well, I saw a very wealthy man lose all his money in a minute, and another man gain so much money in a minute, and someone else gets blamed for something he didn’t do. Yeah, doesn’t make any sense. It’s gotta be a next-lifetime story.”
And the Baal Shem Tov looks at him and says, “You know what? King David was right when he wrote that they have eyes but they see not, and they have ears but they hear not. Don’t you know what happened here?
You see, the first man and the second man, they were in business together in their last lifetime. But, in that lifetime, the first man stole that amount of money from the second guy, so now he’s getting it back again.
He said, “Wait a second. You’re saying he had money he didn’t deserve to have?”
The Baal Shem Tov replies , “Yeah, that’s what happened here.”
He says, “So why did they beat up this poor little guy that came, this third guy?”
The Baal Shem Tov explains, “He was the judge. He said the first guy was right!”
We need to recognize that the cosmos doesn’t make mistakes, we do.
This week the Zohar explains we have a special window of opportunity to really learn from our past lives, so what I’d like you to do is download the attached worksheet and take some time to write down any dominant fears you have, dreams that you particularly remember—especially if they are recurring—and the NEGATIVE traits of your astrological sign. Once you do that, look at it together like pieces of a puzzle that are starting to create a picture.
If we can do this, then through our fears, our dreams or nightmares, and our astrology signs, we can help ourselves find out what it really is that we need to change. And we’re never too young and we’re never too old.
